Kids Riding Horses

Whether you're just a beginner, want a bit of barrel racing, or dressage is your thing, come ride with us at

Lone Star Ranch.

Our horses and ponies are well-seasoned, our instructors are the best in Austin, and we will pair you with the right horse for your abilities and riding goals.  Our covered arena also allows for almost all-weather riding!

Lessons at Lone Star Ranch

Designed for both children and adults, our lesson program is based on a whole-horse approach and is heavily based on an organization called the Official US Pony Club, and follows the organization's riding level system! We don't want to just teach riders, we want to develop "horse people." Thus,  in addition to riding lessons, each student is allowed to attend 2 Barnworks Practicals and 2 Horsemanship Classes each month to further their equestrian education beyond just riding!

To get started:  we like for prospective students to come for a single lesson that will serve as an evaluation to make sure we place you in the correct class. Once we have evaluated your riding, we will open online enrollment for you!

Riding Levels (Private & Group):

Beginner 1This level encompasses our Introductory and D-1 Preparatory courses, and is for riders just starting out in their riding journey!

Beginner 2 - This level encompasses our D-1 and D-2 Preparatory courses, including independent trotting and cantering/loping on the lunge line.

Novice This level encompasses the D-2 course, and is for riders who are ready to canter/lope independently.

Novice PLUS These classes are Private or Semi-Private, and are tailored to those advanced riders who are ready to begin carving out their equestrian path towards a specific riding discipline.

Here are some lesson policies that may answer some of your questions:

CANCELLATIONS:

All lessons -To cancel a lesson, please notify us of your absence ahead of time by emailing our Riding School Director at rs@lonestarranchtexas.com. That way we will be able to notify your instructor and schedule you for a makeup class day.

UN-ENROLLMENT:

Once enrolled, you are signed up for the entirety of the semester. For this reason, we recommend coming out for an evaluation lesson or two to test the waters!

INCLEMENT WEATHER:

Both of our locations have covered riding arenas! Because of this, we will generally still ride in inclement weather. Inclement weather cancellations are up to the lesson director and lessons will be canceled based on temperature (generally under 25 degrees), rain, and safety of riding areas.  All lesson students will be notified via text message by 2:30 (or earlier) if lessons are canceled.

MAKEUP LESSONS:

We offer two Makeup Days per semester (one per Summer semester) in which you can sign up to make up one missed class each.

LESSON PAYMENT PLANS:

Payment for the semester can either be done on a monthly basis, or you can save some money by paying for the full semeser all at once! Either way, you'll be enrolled for the length of the semester, and won't need to worry about another student taking your spot.
